Meet Kevin Newell

Kevin Newell came to the Isabella County Michigan Works! in October of 2009 after being laid off from an assembly position. After working in the manufacturing field, Kevin was looking to better himself and increase his marketability. Kevin came to Michigan Works! to utilize his Trade funding and follow a lifelong dream. Kevin was Trade certified from a company in 2008 and decided to take advantage of the program at Michigan Works!. Kevin was very interested in changing career paths and decided with his Employment Specialist on a motorcycle mechanics program from Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI). Kevin worked with his Employment Specialist to complete the necessary steps to get enrolled to start his new career.

Kevin started the motorcycle mechanics program at MMI in April of 2009 and was at the top of his class while attending. Kevin received assistance with subsistence, mileage, rent, tuition, books and required supplies. Kevin’s Employment Specialist was there to help him through each step, providing case management services to assist in achieving his goal.

Kevin completed his program and found a job with Lakeside Motor Sports as a mechanic. Kevin states that "thanks to Michigan Works! I was able to follow a lifelong passion and get training that I otherwise would not have been able to get and better myself. I now work in a position I enjoy." Clyde Compson from Lakeside Motorsports stated that "Kevin is a great worker and a team player."
