The AMASE (Academics Making Adult Success Easy) Learning Lab in Greenville recognized GED graduates and participants in a ceremony full of food, friends, and accolades on August 18, 2010.  Teachers, John Pellerito, Bob Olcheske, and Steve Stouten, congratulated students who earned their GED or participated in raising their academic skill level with certificates of participation.  John introduced past students, Lorie Hollenbeck, Sandra Emmorey, and Michael Baker who have all moved on to college.  Michael Baker, spoke to the participants about his success, stating, “It’s rough if you make it rough, but this can be done”.  Michael has moved onto Lansing Community College where he has spent two semesters on the Dean’s list working toward a degree in Human Services.  Many other participants are enjoying their own taste of success by advancing their skills using the AMASE lab to move into trainings like welding and CDL.  The GED receipents this year are Brandy Allen, Angela Blount, Amie Bradley, Amber Clark, Steve Cope, Tarl Davidson, John Greene, Mark Jessup Jr., Rebecca Jones, Angela Keen, Sheila Kennedy, Terri Kerr, Jonathan Knight, Keith Moffett, Jessica Moody, David Ogden, Dawn Puff, Jason Reinitz, Terry Sherman, Robert Stoneham, Isaac Strachan, and Ethel Wireman. Congratulations to all participants!

On August 11, 2010, twenty three young adults were honored by their families, friends and Michigan Works! staff members  with a GED graduation ceremony, held on the campus of Central Michigan University.  These participants are part of the federally funded Workforce Investment Act Youth program and attended an enrichment class at the Michigan Works! office, where they were able to increase their skills and become prepared to pass the five-test GED.  Of the 23 youth who achieved their GED’s this year, 19 also earned a National Career Readiness Certificate.  Graduates included:  Brittany Allen, Christina Amon, Mike Bierschbach, Matt Blodgett, Adam Breidenstein, Logan Burr, Kayla Carr, Thomas Davenport, Jesse Gotwalt, Jaimy Hill, Erich Lehman, Tamara Marks, Kyle Marshall, Kyle McMahan, James Nunamaker, Amanda Onstott, Justin Quick, Codi Shephard, Timothy Starkey, Christina Sweet, Ben Tretchler, Krystle Voss, and Mary Witmer.  Congratulations to all!!

Microsoft's Elevate America program offered free computer training to Michigan residents.  Over 2000 vouchers were distributed in March and April.  See below for a table that shows how many free trainings were received throughout our four counties.
